Raphinha Answers Mbappe to Level an Emotional Clasico

Pedri improvised a short corner that led to Raphinha's equalizer, after Mbappe had put Real Madrid ahead in the first half.

Raphinha Answers Mbappe to Level an Emotional Clasico

When Pedri decided not to cross the ball and instead cut inside, something had already shifted against Real Madrid. That fake on a short corner ended up being the play that brought Barcelona back to life in the middle of a Clasico, one of those games the calendar had saved for matchday ten of LaLiga 2026/2027, and once again, it did not disappoint.

The Catalan side had spent the first half facing a rival that bet everything on speed down the flanks, with Kylian Mbappe breaking lines on every attack. That plan paid off: in the 41st minute, the Frenchman put Madrid ahead with a goal that forced Barcelona to push forward with everything, a risky proposition given that its back line was, quite literally, left one on one against Mbappe.

That tactical call nearly backfired badly. Madrid noticed right away and started threatening with quick breaks. On one of those transitions, Jude Bellingham and Mbappe himself found a two on one that could have made it 2-0, but the finish let them down and the chance slipped away. It was, probably, the moment the match could have gotten completely out of hand.

Raphinha's Response

It didn't get out of hand. Barcelona weathered that dangerous stretch and found its reward on a set piece in the 61st minute. On a short corner, Pedri faked a direct cross, changed his mind, cut toward the middle of the box and, with his left foot, slipped a pass through to Raphinha. The Brazilian made no mistake: he finished low, giving the goalkeeper no chance, and made it 1-1 on the scoreboard.

Raphinha's goal did more than even the score: it changed the entire mood of a Clasico that Real Madrid had under control after Mbappe's opener. With the match tied, it was thrown wide open for what remained, with a Barcelona side that had endured Madrid's speed in the first half but answered with a well-worked play rather than a stroke of luck.

That's how this latest edition of El Clasico heads into its closing stretch, with Mbappe and Raphinha as the protagonists behind both goals, in a contest that once again makes clear why this match remains the most anticipated fixture in Spanish soccer every season.
