River could collect $15 million from solidarity payments tied to Palacios, Enzo and Julian

The Nunez club stands to receive solidarity payments if the transfers of Exequiel Palacios, Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez go through in Europe.

River could collect $15 million from solidarity payments tied to Palacios, Enzo and Julian

Fifteen million dollars. That's the figure River could add to its coffers before the European transfer window closes, without signing a single contract or lifting a finger in negotiations. The number came from Gustavo Yarroch on Buen Dia ESPN, and it has a technical name behind it: FIFA's solidarity mechanism, the rule that rewards academy clubs when a player who came up through their youth ranks moves abroad.

Who are we talking about? None other than three World Cup winners from Qatar 2022: Exequiel Palacios, Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez. All three came through Nunez before making the jump to Europe, and now that their careers could be entering new chapters, River is positioned to collect the 5% it's owed on each deal, provided the sales go through and within 30 days of the transfer closing.

The Palacios case, furthest along

Of the three, Palacios' situation is the closest to being finalized. The midfielder would be leaving Bayer Leverkusen to join Ipswich Town in the Premier League, in a deal worth around 22.5 million euros plus another 5 million in add-ons, with a 10% sell-on clause for the German club on any future resale.

There's an important wrinkle here: River wouldn't keep the full 5% of that figure. The club had special clauses in place with Leverkusen dating back to the original transfer, so what would actually come in from this sale is $2.3 million, considerably less than what the standard solidarity mechanism would otherwise provide.

Enzo and Julian, still distant but with upside

The situations involving Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez are a different story. Neither move is close to happening in the short term, but both names continue to generate buzz in the European market, with figures estimated at more than $150 million combined if both deals were to happen. Should that scenario play out, River could pocket an additional $13 million simply for having developed them.

It's worth noting that these two sales remain projections for now, not done deals. The European market tends to produce surprises right up until the final minute, and both Enzo and Julian have active contracts with Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, so any departure will hinge on decisions that haven't been made yet.

Either way, just the possibility of adding $15 million without spending a cent is already good news for the books at the Nunez club, which once again stands to benefit from having been the academy that produced three of Qatar's World Cup champions.
