Rodrigo Contreras gives Millonarios stoppage-time win over Cucuta Deportivo
The Embajador side snapped a four-game winless streak, and Nestor Lorenzo picked up his first win in his second stint in charge of the club.
Five minutes. That's all it took Rodrigo Contreras to shut the door on a match that, until that point, looked like it was slipping away from Millonarios. His finish off a corner kick, with the clock already working against them, gave the Embajador side a 2-1 win over Cucuta Deportivo at Estadio General Santander, in matchday 10 of the 2026-II BetPlay League.
This was no ordinary game for Millonarios. The club came in on the back of four straight matches without a win, a streak that had begun to unsettle the fan base and, above all, Nestor Lorenzo Gamero himself, who picked up his first victory in this second stint in charge of the club with this result.
The start belonged entirely to Millonarios. Leonardo Castro tried his luck from distance and forced Abadia to stretch and tip the ball onto the crossbar. Cucuta answered almost immediately with a shot from Ceballos that Burrai smothered with his chest, making clear early on that the night wouldn't be easy for either goalkeeper.
The match, however, had a moment that changed everything, though not the scoreline. In the 27th minute, Samuel Martin took a heavy blow in a collision with Tamayo and had to be taken off the field by ambulance. The Cucuta player stayed on the pitch despite protests from the visiting side, in a play that left tension on both benches.
The first half ended scoreless, though there were plenty of close calls: Mateo Garcia hit a shot near the post and Torres also tested Burrai before the break.
The second half brought more drama
With the second half underway, Millonarios kept pushing. Estupinan tried first and Abadia answered well, but Cucuta's resistance finally cracked when Rodrigo Urena connected with a cross from Darwin Quintero to make it 1-0.
Chaverra then had a chance to extend the lead, but it was Cucuta who showed up instead. Torres beat Llinas in the air and, capitalizing on a weak positioning by Burrai, headed home the equalizer that revived the home crowd's hopes.
The match looked headed for an open finish until the corner kick that decided it all arrived. Rodrigo Contreras showed up in the box to send the ball into the back of the net with five minutes to go, sealing the final 2-1.
With this result, Millonarios moved up to 16 points and sit second in the standings after ten matchdays, behind an America de Cali side that leads with 20 points from just eight games played. Cucuta Deportivo, meanwhile, stayed at 9 points and sits in 13th place in the league table.
