San Lorenzo hosts Unión looking to snap its losing skid
Both sides arrive needing a win after a rough run in the tournament.
Two teams whose fans' patience is being tested meet this Saturday at Estadio Pedro Bidegain. San Lorenzo hosts Unión in Matchday 5 of Zone A of the 2026 Clausura, and neither side has any room to relax.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (Argentina and Uruguay time), 1:30 p.m. in Chile and 12:30 p.m. in Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN Premium.
A matchup between two teams in need
There's no need to overstate why this game matters: neither the Ciclón nor the Tatengue started the season the way they'd hoped, and unease is already building among both fan bases. San Lorenzo arrives fresh off a loss to Huracán at the Ducó that snapped a 25-year unbeaten streak in that fixture, a result that stung internally, and with that defeat the team has now dropped two straight in the league. Through five matchdays, Néstor Gorosito's side has won just one game, a run that's starting to draw criticism from its own supporters.
Unión, for its part, hasn't fared much better. In its last outing, the team blew a lead against Central Córdoba and ended up losing 2-1 at home, a blow Leonardo Madelón will be looking to put behind him. What weighs heaviest in Santa Fe is that the club hasn't won at the Gasómetro in three years, so the visitors carry some history into this one.
Names to watch
Up front for the Azulgrana, the duo expected to cause trouble is Alexis Cuello and Rodrigo Auzmendi, though Nicolás Tripicchio and Facundo Gulli are worth keeping an eye on too, since they tend to show up at key moments. Unión, meanwhile, is leaning on Cristian Tarragona as its main scoring threat, alongside Julián Palacios, while Joaquín Mosqueira and Ignacio Malcorra remain central to building the team's play.
The most recent meeting between the two doesn't offer much of a hint: on February 13, 2026, they played to a scoreless draw, an even match that left mixed impressions on both sides.
With both squads desperate for three points, Saturday's game at the Bidegain promises tension from the opening whistle. Can either team break out of its slump, or will the match end up mirroring the uneven form both have shown so far?
