Slovakia thrashes Moldova 4-0 to take sole command of Nations League Group C3
Goals from Strelec, Suslov, Hancko and Haraslín sealed a rout that leaves Slovakia with a perfect record and Moldova six points back in the standings.

Seven minutes. That's all it took for Slovakia to get on the board at Stadionul Zimbru, and from there the night stretched on endlessly for Moldova. The final score read 0-4, a lopsided result on matchday in Group C3 of the UEFA Nations League that left Slovakia as the only team with a perfect record in the win column.
David Strelec put the visitors ahead in the 7th minute with a left-footed finish from close range after a free kick was played into the box, a goal born out of a sequence of rebounds from a Ivan Schranz and Milan Skriniar attempt. Moldova, who had started with some boldness (Vladimir Fratea gave an early warning with a shot that grazed the post in the 3rd minute), were forced to chase the game from that point on.
The second blow landed right before halftime: in the 43rd minute, Tomás Suslov, set up by Ivan Mesík, hit a left-footed strike from outside the box that snuck in low, hugging the goalkeeper's left post. At 0-2 at the break, the story of the match was already pretty much written.
The second half sealed it
Moldova tried to respond after the restart and even created a couple of clear chances through Perciun and Fratea, but lacked precision. Slovakia, on the other hand, showed no mercy: in the 59th minute, Dávid Hancko struck with his left foot from outside the area, again through the middle of the goal, assisted by Lukás Haraslín, to make it 0-3. Then in the 74th minute, Haraslín himself turned finisher, curling a left-footed shot into the top left corner off a pass from Leo Sauer to put the finishing touch on the 0-4 rout.
Moldova had a few flashes afterward, with shots from Cristian Dros, Petru Popescu and Victor Stîna that failed to find the target, but the match had been decided long before that.
What the numbers say
Slovakia controlled possession and was sharper at creating danger, though Moldova finished with more total shots and more corners in its favor, a stat line that never translated into goals.
| Stat | Moldova | Slovakia |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 46.2 | 53.8 |
| Shots | 17 | 14 |
| Shots on target | 5 | 6 |
| Corners | 8 | 3 |
| Passes | 429 | 509 |
| Fouls committed | 15 | 9 |
According to our post-match xG estimate calculated from the shots taken in the game, Slovakia generated 2.718 expected goals compared to 1.071 for Moldova, a gap that confirms the visitors' dominance was considerably more solid than the total shot count alone would suggest.
Our preview had given Slovakia a 51% chance of winning, against a 21% chance for the home side and 28% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.59 for the visitors and 0.93 for Moldova. The final result not only confirmed the favorite but blew past it: four goals is considerably more than what we projected for Slovakia before kickoff.
What it means for the standings
In Group C3, Slovakia sits on 10 points from 4 matches played (3 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses), while Moldova remains on 4 points from the same number of appearances (1 win, 1 draw, 2 losses) and a goal difference that has slipped into negative territory. The gap between the two in the table stands at 6 points. For Moldova, the takeaway is clear: points need to start coming in the remaining matchdays to avoid drifting further from the group race. For Slovakia, the rout at the Zimbru paints the picture of a team that put the game away without any scares from the first quarter hour onward.
