It took just three minutes for Shell Energy Stadium to understand which way this story was headed. Alexis Vega finished with his right foot from the center of the box to make it 1-0 for Toluca, almost before Monterrey had settled into the game. The final score, 2-0, sends Toluca through to the Final of this playoff series, though the match, especially in the second half, carried far more Monterrey pressure than the scoreline suggests.

What made it strange was that Monterrey was anything but passive: just seconds before Vega's goal, Hugo Cuypers had already tested the frame of the goal with a header that grazed the post, and at the three-minute mark Federico Viñas had forced a low save before Vega himself pounced on the rebound.
