Tottenham Signs Savio from Manchester City After Year-Long Pursuit
The 22-year-old Brazilian winger joins De Zerbi's project for up to $116 million after making 53 appearances for City.

A full year of waiting finally paid off. Tottenham has completed the signing of Savio from Manchester City, in a deal that could reach 85 million pounds ($116 million). This is no last-minute whim: Spurs have been chasing the Brazilian winger since last summer, when they first tried and failed to land him.
There's an interesting detail in all this. At City, the 22-year-old wore "Savinho" on the back of his shirt, a diminutive of his full name, Savio Moreira de Oliveira. At Tottenham, they've decided on something different: from now on he'll simply be known as Savio. A small identity change for a new chapter.
The player himself made no secret of how eager he was for this move to finally happen:
It's taken some time, but I'm really happy to be here. It's a wonderful opportunity at a great club with one of the best coaches in the world. As soon as I spoke with the coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach my full potential, and I think we can achieve that together, as a team.Savio
That coach is Roberto De Zerbi, who is already looking forward to what a player of Savio's profile can bring out wide. The Italian was clear about what he expects from the Brazilian:
Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality out wide. He has the courage to take on defenders and the ability to change the course of a game through his creativity. We're delighted to have him, and I'm looking forward to working alongside him, helping him keep developing and seeing how he brings his personality to the team.Roberto De Zerbi
Sporting director Johan Lange also celebrated the arrival of a player the club had been tracking closely for some time, convinced that his style fits the project being built in north London.
Limited minutes at City, but plenty of room to grow
It's worth putting this signing in context. Savio joined Manchester City in 2024 from Troyes and made just 53 appearances, contributing two goals and 12 assists. Modest numbers for the fee involved, sure, but also a sign of a 22-year-old who still has plenty of room to develop and who will now look for the kind of prominence he didn't always find at City.
His arrival strengthens an attack that looked fairly limited in Spurs' league opener against Brentford, a match in which 19-year-old academy product Mikey Moore had to start on the right wing for lack of alternatives. With Savio on board, that gap should now be filled.
The deal also pushes Tottenham's spending this transfer window past 300 million pounds ($408.9 million), adding to the arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, along with free-agent signings Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka. Part of that outlay was offset by the departures of Cristian Romero, Djed Spence and Luka Vuskovic.
And Spurs' business this window might not be finished yet: there are signs that Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush could also arrive from Manchester City, which would confirm an increasingly close relationship between the two clubs during this transfer period.
