Vidal shines in Colo Colo's 1-0 win, stays calm on contract talks
The midfielder was named man of the match against Audax Italiano, praised the response of the club's younger players and said he remains calm even though his contract situation is still unresolved.

The Estadio Nacional only saw one goal on Friday night, but it was enough for Colo Colo to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa Chile. The Cacique beat Audax Italiano 1-0 and, despite a long list of absences, left behind an image that pleased everyone inside the club: inexperienced young players carrying the weight of the match alongside the team's usual leaders.
And among those leaders, none shone brighter than Arturo Vidal. The "King" picked up the man of the match award, and once the final whistle blew, he made no secret of how pleased he was with what he'd seen on the field. This was no ordinary match to experiment with lineups: with several regulars out, the coach had no choice but to turn to young faces, and the response won over the squad.
Really happy, I'm truly very content with the team. We're missing a lot of players, but the ones who came in did really well, and that speaks well of the work that's been done. I hope the young guys keep making the most of this opportunity. They know the older guys are with them. If they make mistakes, we're going to back them upArturo Vidal
That message to the squad's newcomers sums up Vidal's moment pretty well: he's not just playing anymore, he's also pushing from a leadership role. And that same calm came through when the conversation shifted to a topic that's been following him for a while now: his contract renewal, which still hasn't been resolved.
No rush to sign
Asked about the delay in negotiations, Vidal was direct and left no doubt about his state of mind.
I'm not worried, I haven't spoken about it because there are things I don't like, but I'm calm. I saw that I'm the best center back in South America, I saw that come out in that study. A player like that can never be nervous. If it works out that I stay here, I'll be happyArturo Vidal
The statement leaves room for more than one reading: on one hand, the confidence of a player who feels he's at a good level; on the other, a certain caution about parts of the negotiation that, by his own admission, don't fully convince him. Even so, he didn't shut the door on continuing to wear the white shirt.
With qualification to the quarterfinals already secured, Vidal's focus stretches to the end of the season, where Colo Colo still dreams of more than one title. The midfielder himself laid it out as a goal, without losing sight of his own future either.
I hope that by the end of the year we can celebrate these two titles, and if it works out, keep going here happily, but I'm very pleased with what I'm doingArturo Vidal
For now, the Cacique has what it needed: a ticket to the Copa Chile quarterfinals, a young squad that answered the call when it mattered, and its symbolic captain, once again, setting the pace.
