Viera answers Independiente fans' doubts: "We work for this club around the clock"
After a 1-1 draw with San Lorenzo in the 2026 Clausura, the coach admitted that "nobody knows him" but asked for trust, pointing to his time at Nacional.

After a 1-1 draw against San Lorenzo in the 2026 Clausura Tournament, Jadson Viera didn't shy away from the microphones. Quite the opposite: he sought out the camera to speak directly to Independiente fans, the ones who still look at him with some suspicion because, as the coach himself admits, "nobody knows him."
His line at the press conference was clear and to the point: "You have an honest coaching staff, and we work for and on behalf of Independiente around the clock." That's no small statement coming from someone who knows he arrived at a big club without the backing of a name that carries weight across the continent, and who needs to earn that credibility match by match.
Viera went further and dug into that sense of unfamiliarity that an "unknown" coach can sometimes stir up at a club like Independiente. His response was to point to his own recent past.
Sometimes people also say we showed up and nobody knows us, but we also come from a big club (Nacional). In other words, we also come from putting in work. And being here is a huge source of excitement for us, and I carry a big responsibility toward the group, the jersey, and the club's officials.Jadson Viera
That's the point he wanted to make clear: he didn't arrive out of nowhere. Before taking his seat on Independiente's bench, he managed Nacional, and for him, that's a credential that deserves to be taken seriously even if the name doesn't carry as much weight in Buenos Aires as it does in Montevideo.
A message of total commitment
The strongest moment of the press conference came when Viera chose to underline, almost like a public pledge, just how much he's putting into the job. He didn't talk about results or promise titles: he talked about daily work, about being present, about living the club from the inside.
I'm here for Independiente around the clock. That's the truth. I live for this club, and we're on top of everything all day long. That's what you're going to get with me. Will things run better? Yes, we're going to improve. At some point we're going to make mistakes, but always in the service of the work and getting the best out of Independiente. That's what you're going to get with me.Jadson Viera
There's something interesting in how he positioned himself: Viera didn't dodge the fact that the team's performance still needs to improve. He said it himself, without anyone even framing the question that way. And he also gave a heads up that there will be mistakes along the way, something you don't often hear from a coach who's just starting to build his relationship with the fan base.
The draw against San Lorenzo leaves Independiente in a position to keep picking up points little by little in the Clausura 2026, but Viera's message was aimed elsewhere: at establishing an idea of process, commitment, and honesty as the identity of his coaching staff, regardless of what the standings say at this point in the tournament.
