Alianza Lima and Universitario Fight for Survival in Decisive Clausura Clash

Matute is gearing up for a derby that arrives with the standings tight and nerves running high. Alianza Lima and Universitario face off this weekend in the 2026 Clausura Tournament, and while the fixture always promises a show, this time there's even more on the line: the margin for error for both sides is now practically zero.

Universitario comes in as the better-positioned of the two. Hector Cuper's side sits second with 17 points and a goal difference of plus-6, just two points behind surprise leader Deportivo Garcilaso. A win in La Victoria wouldn't just hand them the top spot, even if only temporarily, it would also let them open up a seven-point gap over their fiercest rival, a result that would all but eliminate Alianza from Clausura title contention and put the Cremas on track for the national semifinal with an eye on a fourth straight title.
