Barcelona turns down PSG's $40 million bid for Ferran Torres, wants more than $50 million
The forward has already agreed personal terms with the Paris club, but the Catalans won't budge on the transfer fee.
The summer soap opera at Camp Nou has a name: Ferran Torres. The Valencia-born forward wants to pack his bags for Paris, and for now Barcelona isn't making it easy for him. According to a source who spoke to ESPN, the Blaugrana rejected an initial offer from PSG worth close to 40 million euros and are now demanding a figure above 50 million to let him go.
This has been brewing for a while. Ferran, 26, already told the club's board last week that his head, and his heart, are set on the reigning European champions. What's more, the player and PSG had already agreed on the personal terms of a contract before the two clubs even sat down to talk numbers. And that's exactly where the problem lies, because it's one thing for a player to have his mind made up about his next destination, and quite another for Barca to give away its starting center forward in the middle of August.
Ferran's contract runs through 2027, so Barcelona isn't under any desperate pressure to sell, but the club isn't closing the door on a departure this summer either, provided the price is right. Right now those two numbers, 40 million and 50 million, are what stand between the two clubs and a completed transfer.
A golden summer that could end in Paris
Ferran arrives at this saga at the peak of his career. He scored the goal that won Spain the 2026 World Cup, in the final on July 19 against Argentina (1-0). After a well-earned vacation, the forward will rejoin training this week, just as Barcelona ramps up preparations for its league opener against Elche, set for August 23.
In interviews he gave after winning the World Cup, Ferran didn't hide where his future seems to be headed. He even sent a pointed message to the club that developed him into a center forward over the past two seasons:
"They should show me a little love"Ferran Torres
The comment sounded like a thinly veiled ultimatum, and according to sources close to the negotiations, it confirmed what had already been rumored: PSG had informed Barcelona that it had a deal in place with the player. In Paris, Ferran would reunite with Luis Enrique, his former coach with the Spanish national team.
Why PSG needs a forward
PSG's interest is no coincidence. The club was left without a backup striker after allowing Goncalo Ramos to leave for Milan, while Randal Kolo Muani, on loan last season at Tottenham, ended up signing with Juventus. Ousmane Dembele has filled in at center forward from time to time, but Luis Enrique wants more options up top for a season that begins with the pressure of defending the club's continental title.
Ferran's numbers back up the interest: 21 goals in 49 matches last season and 19 goals in 45 matches the year before, production that made him Barcelona's main offensive reference after Robert Lewandowski's move to Chicago Fire.
That departure is precisely what complicates things for Barcelona. If Ferran leaves, the club will need to reinforce its attack almost immediately, which brings back the name of Julian Alvarez, a top target for weeks now. The Argentine, who returned to training yesterday after the World Cup, already made his position clear during the tournament:
"A transfer would be best for everyone involved"Julian Alvarez
Atletico Madrid, however, turned down a Barcelona offer worth close to 100 million euros earlier this summer and remains firm that its forward is not for sale. So Barcelona, more than ever, needs the Ferran sale to close quickly and for the right price: every extra million it can squeeze out of Paris will be another argument to bring to the table in Madrid.
