Inter blitz Parma 3-0 in half an hour to cement hold on Serie A lead
Sucic, Çalhanoglu and Thuram had the game put away before the half-hour mark at a Meazza controlled from start to finish by Chivu's side.

It took barely half an hour to settle this one. Internazionale thrashed Parma 3-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza, striking three times between the 12th and 30th minutes and turning the rest of the game into a formality. Serie A got another reminder that this Inter team shows no mercy once it grabs an early lead.
Petar Sucic opened the scoring in the 12th minute, curling a left-footed shot from the middle of the box straight down the center of the goal. Parma had barely had time to threaten, with a shot from El Bilal Touré that clipped the crossbar, before they found themselves behind. Three minutes later came the play that tilted the match for good: Francesco Pio Esposito went down in the box after a foul by Diego Carlos, the referee checked the play on VAR and awarded the penalty. Hakan Çalhanoglu made no mistake from the spot in the 17th minute, sending his right-footed shot low into the corner by the left post for 2-0.
The third goal arrived before the half-hour mark. Marcus Thuram popped up on the right side of the box and finished low into the same left-hand corner, set up by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, making it 3-0 in the 30th minute. What followed was more of the same, minus the reward: Dimarco tested the keeper several times, Esposito had his chances too, and in the second half substitute Lautaro Martínez came close to a fourth with a header that skimmed the crossbar. Parma, for their part, created a little something through David Romero and Simone Lontani after their substitutions, but never seriously troubled the home goal.
The numbers behind the rout
Inter's dominance showed up in every stat from the night. Possession, shots and passes all tell the same story: a match controlled from start to finish.
| Stat | Internazionale | Parma |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 59.4 | 40.6 |
| Shots | 19 | 9 |
| Shots on target | 6 | 2 |
| Corners | 3 | 1 |
| Passes | 631 | 432 |
| Fouls committed | 13 | 9 |
Our own expected-goals estimate, calculated from the shots taken during the match, also makes the gap clear: 2.614 for Inter against just 0.49 for Parma. This isn't a prediction but a read on the actual chances each side created, and it confirms the result wasn't down to clinical finishing in isolated moments, but to sustained control of the game.
What's striking is that the final result ended up even more lopsided than our preview projected. Before kickoff we had Inter at a 77% chance of winning, with 17% for a draw and just 6% for Parma, and our expected-goals model pointed to 2.43 against 0.58. The final score lined up with that trend, though Cristian Chivu's side exceeded even that expectation on the opponent's side of the field.
What it means in the standings
With this result, Internazionale moves to 16 points from six matches, with a record of five wins and a draw and no losses, sitting atop the table. Parma, managed by Alberto Gilardino, stay on 4 points from six games (one win, one draw and four losses) and remain stuck near the bottom of the standings. The gap between the two sides in the table now stands at 12 points, a distance that tonight's match only confirmed on the field.
For Inter, the ruthlessness of the first 30 minutes was the whole story: three goals from three different players (Sucic, Çalhanoglu and Thuram) were enough to leave the rest of the match to be managed comfortably. For Parma, the task remains the same one they've been facing all season: finding a way to hold their own against the teams at the top of the table, something they failed to do even for a moment at the Meazza.
