Manchester United Is Selling Pieces of the Old Trafford Pitch for £125
The club fully removed the playing surface in June, the first time that's happened in 14 years, and is now offering fragments of the turf that witnessed both trophies and painful defeats.

A piece of Old Trafford could soon end up sitting in someone's living room. Manchester United has decided to sell off fragments of the stadium's historic turf, and for £125 ($165) any fan can take home a chunk of the grass that's been under the feet of the club's legends for decades.
The idea feels almost sentimental when you consider everything that pitch has seen. It hosted 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League triumphs and several FA Cups during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, when Old Trafford felt like an impenetrable fortress. But the pitch's memory doesn't hold only wins.
It also carries the beatdowns nobody in Manchester wants to remember: that 5-0 defeat to eternal rival Liverpool, the painful 6-1 collapse against Tottenham, and, more recently, the stumble against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, where United blew a 2-0 lead and ended up losing 3-2. That result wasn't just another bad night, it marked the club's first home defeat after leading at halftime in 42 years.
A New Pitch for a Season That Needs to Turn the Page
The turf now being sold in pieces isn't the same one players walked on just months ago. According to club media, the field was dug up entirely down to its foundations in June, something that hadn't happened in 14 years. Some sections of the removed turf were set aside to be displayed later in glass cases, like museum pieces, while others were made available for anyone who wants to take home a piece of history.
The job of pulling up the surface fell to grounds staffer Tony Sinclair, and the renovation wasn't just about looks. The club's website explained the reasoning behind the change:
improving player welfare and water drainageTony Sinclair
A new pitch, with better drainage and designed with the squad's physical wellbeing in mind, arrives at a moment when United badly needs things to start improving on the field. Fans who take home their fragment of history might also be hoping for something more: that the renovated turf marks the first step in a season that, so far, has brought them more headaches than joy.
