Gonzalo Reyna scores first goal for Universidad de Chile in 3-1 win over Limache

A loose ball inside the box, a well-placed left foot, and the first goal celebration in a Universidad de Chile jersey. That's how Gonzalo Reyna broke his scoring drought in his third appearance for the blue side, in the 3-1 win over Deportes Limache that pulled the club a little closer to the top of the 2026 Primera League.

The goal came in the 79th minute at Lucio Fariña Fernández stadium, in matchday 19 of the tournament. The Argentine forward, just 19 years old and on loan from Racing Club, latched onto a loose rebound inside the area and didn't think twice: he unleashed a powerful shot that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance, sealing the U victory.

It's no small detail for the squad's morale: with this result, U cut the gap to league leader Colo Colo down to nine points, right in the week before a Superclasico that's already dominating conversations across Chile.

Reyna, who had been knocking on the door without finding the net, didn't hide his emotion after the match. It was clear this first goal had been weighing on him, and he made that plain as soon as the final whistle blew.

My teammates' support is fundamental, I feel very comfortable. It was a huge joy. It took a while to come, and there were times it frustrated me, but today it finally arrived. It's something really special for me and my family.Gonzalo Reyna

Focused on the day to day

Beyond his personal happiness, the forward wanted to put the focus on the team's collective performance. He spoke about trust, about constant work, and made clear that even with the Superclasico already on the horizon, the priority was something else entirely.

I trusted my teammates a lot, they've been doing really important work. We're all together in this, ready to fight. We weren't thinking about the Superclasico, just about winning today, which was the most important thing.Gonzalo Reyna

Now, with the match against Limache settled, attention shifts fully to that showdown with Colo Colo next weekend. And Reyna, far from hiding it, looks eager at the idea of getting minutes in a game of that magnitude, well aware of what it means to the fans.

The young attacker, who arrived in Chile hoping to earn a place in the first team, admitted he's been closely following how the buildup to Chilean soccer's biggest rivalry match is being felt around him.

You see it on social media and in how excited people get, for me it's something really special to be able to experience it.Gonzalo Reyna

With this win, Universidad de Chile not only picked up three crucial points in the title race, but also found in Reyna an offensive option that's starting to show why he generated so much anticipation since his arrival. If this goal unlocks him in the weeks ahead, the Superclasico could find him carrying a new level of confidence onto the field.
