Messi Cup Doubles in Size, Bringing 16 Under-16 Clubs to Miami
The youth tournament backed by Lionel Messi grows from eight to sixteen teams, with Barcelona, River, Boca and Manchester City among those confirmed, running October 25 to November 1 at Inter Miami's stadium.

Sixteen clubs, one shared goal: finding the young players who might someday compete for a Ballon d'Or. Lionel Messi has just confirmed the second edition of the Messi Cup, his youth tournament that this time doubles in size from its first run and heads to South Florida.
The event will take place between October 25 and November 1, with every match held at Inter Miami's stadium, according to the tournament's organizers. This is no ordinary youth showcase: the age group is under-16, and the guest list reads like something out of a soccer video game.
Among those set to take part are Inter Miami, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter Milan and Benfica, along with beloved South American names such as Boca Juniors, River Plate, Newell's Old Boys, Flamengo, Palmeiras and Independiente del Valle. Ajax and UE Cornella round out the field, bringing the total to 16 confirmed clubs.
The tournament launched last year with eight teams, and now Messi has decided to hit the gas. Behind the scenes is his production company, 525 Rosario, which is shaping an event designed not just for great soccer, but for a full experience for these kids before they take the leap to the elite level.
The Messi Cup was created to give young players a unique experience, both on and off the field, during a crucial stage of their development, and to show them what it means to compete at the highest international level. We're thrilled to see the tournament grow and to bring together players from so many of the world's top clubs to compete, share experiences and, above all, enjoy the game.Lionel Messi
Also excited about the project's growth was Tim Pastore, CEO of 525 Rosario, the company driving the tournament alongside Messi himself.
Growing from eight to 16 clubs in our second year marks an important milestone for the Messi Cup. Our goal is to secure a permanent place on the global youth soccer calendar and build a tournament that clubs value, that young players aspire to play in, and that fans around the world want to follow. That means continuing to raise the bar every year, both in the quality of the soccer and in how we organize and run the tournament.Tim Pastore
Judging by Pastore's own words, the idea goes well beyond a week of eye-catching matches in Miami. The goal is to establish the Messi Cup as a fixed date on the international youth calendar, something that's already taking shape with this jump from eight to sixteen teams.
With heavyweight names like River, Boca, Barcelona and Manchester City confirmed, anticipation is building among youth academies. Who will be the next kid who, years from now, says his first big international tournament was this very one?
