Tigre hosts Central Córdoba looking for a win to settle into the Clausura
Both teams arrive in need after uneven starts, with little room for error at the Dellagiovanna.
Neither side arrives brimming with confidence, and that's exactly what could turn this match into a battle of nerves. Tigre hosts Central Córdoba on Monday, August 24 at the Estadio José Dellagiovanna, for matchday six of the 2026 Clausura Tournament, with the standings still unsettled and neither club sitting where it wants to be.
The match, an interzonal clash, will be broadcast live on TNT Sports starting at 7:00 PM (Argentina and Uruguay), 6:00 PM (Chile) and 5:00 PM (Colombia, Peru and Ecuador). And even though there's still plenty of tournament left to play, three points here carry extra weight: both teams are coming off uneven starts and need a win to settle into playoff position.
How Tigre and Central Córdoba arrive
The week was anything but kind to the Matador. They were knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana at the hands of Montevideo City Torque, a blow to morale that they'll now need to shake off quickly if they want to focus fully on the domestic championship. For the coach and the squad, the Clausura now becomes the only immediate priority, something that could work in their favor if they manage to turn the frustration of that elimination into energy on the field.
Central Córdoba, meanwhile, has a somewhat more encouraging recent history despite its last setback. The Santiago del Estero side had put together two straight wins before stumbling against Instituto in the previous round. In other words, this isn't a team in free fall, but one that has shown solidity of late and will look to pick that streak back up away from home.
The names to watch on the field
At Tigre, all eyes are on Ignacio Russo, Santiago López and Joaquín Laso, three pieces the team needs firing on all cylinders if it wants to control the pace of the match on its own turf. On the other side, Central Córdoba leans on the experience and scoring touch of Michael Santos, along with Mateo Iacobellis and Matías Vera, the usual engines of the Ferroviario's game.
The recent head to head between the two doesn't offer many clues as to what might happen. The only recent meeting was a 0 to 0 draw on February 21, in the Apertura Tournament, at Estadio Madre de Ciudades. A scoreless draw that left more questions than answers, and one that now, given how uneven this start has been for both sides, feels almost like a footnote heading into what's next.
With the Sudamericana already behind Tigre and Central Córdoba trying to build on the momentum of its recent wins, the Dellagiovanna promises a tightly matched game, the kind where whoever has the least room for error ends up walking away with the three points.
